Spring Break

This is a personal post, hope no one minds.

Well, spring break is over. I visited my sister (go Emory tennis!) and brother in Atlanta at Emory University, then went home for a nice amount of sunny weather (shorts land!). After that, I flew to Vancouver to meet my good friend Mark and very nice consultants to go skiing with at Whistler.

What a blast! I'd visited Whistler before and had really enjoyed the skiing. However, this time I had enjoyed the natural beauty more than the skiing; the ice patches and lack of snow were a little disheartening on all the slopes but those at the peak.

Speaking of peaks, I had never been skiing at the top before this trip. The cloud cover made visibility almost non-existent at times, which made me a little anxious. Not knowing where the trail boundaries were and where the cliff began instilled in me a profound respect for the mountain. Riding the chair lift without being able to see the next pylon felt like riding to infinity- a very cold, gusty, and mysterious infinity. With skis on.

The "first tracks" experience was wonderful as well. "First tracks" rewards early risers with a breakfast buffet (hot apple cider, eggs, sausage, cereal, flapjacks, fruit salad, etc.) and the ability to get on the mountain to make the first runs of the day, hence the name. By the time I was done Thursday, my calves and shins were crying "uncle" because of the ill fitting rental boots I had on. Ah, the lament of the occasional skier.
This beautiful vista was captured by the 'ski prof.'

Perhaps the strangest thing we saw in Whistler- William Shatner All-Bran. KHAAAAaaannn!!!

All good things come to an end. Back in Cleveland, back to classes, back to the books...
