Happy New Year!

What a year 2004 was. George W. Bush secured a second term, Republican victories mounted throughout the country, and my classmates and I completed our first semester at law school. Talk about milestones!

Unfortunately, for some in the world who lost family and friends in the war in Iraq, this new year will represent the first that they will spend without their son or daughter, nephew or niece, husband or wife.

How terrible too was the (warning: graphic) devastation wrought by the tsunami in Asia. Let's hope 2005 will bring relief to all those grief stricken by the deaths of 2004.

Let's remember the victories as well as the tragedies of 2004 and perhaps learn something from the lessons of the past year.
